Bad Links? | No dollar store in Senoia ... yetBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoia residents eager to head to the dollar store will have to wait a little longer. The City Council unanimously turned down a request by representatives from Dollar General to rezone a 1.628-acre tract at Ga. Highway 16 and Rockhouse Road from Office Institutional to General Commercial. Planning Commission co-chairman Jim Preece told the council that his group unanimously recommended turning down the request. The City Council agreed with the Planning Commission, but added a caveat. If this property were already zoned commercial, we wouldnt have a problem, said Councilman Robert Belisle. Preece also added that he wanted to make sure the City Council knew that nobody on his committee had said the store would attract the wrong kind of people. In other news, the City Council: Announced they would have a special meeting Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. to discuss the Twin Lakes development. The huge development has been sold to a new owner, and the City Council wants to make sure the new developer understands what can be placed on the site. Approved the purchase of a sewer cleaner for $15,500. The cleaner will operate much like a high-intensity pressure washer and blow out clogged lines. Heard a proposal to clean up the citys water reservoir. Render Ward, who operates a small environmental business, told the city it would take a three-step approach to kill the yellow lilies that are currently clogging the citys reservoir. First, he recommended stocking the lake with steel grass carp to eat away some of the plants. He also said the lake would have to be treated with a herbicide dropped from a helicopter, and the followed up with a follow-up treatment from a boat. Ward did not provide any cost estimates and city officials said they would have to talk with city water operator Rick Jeffries before they made any decision. |
