The Fayette County Council of Domestic Violence, soon to be renamed Promise Place, will join with Vitali Family Karate of Fayetteville to offer a Women's Self Defense class Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. to raise awareness of the needs of the victims of domestic violence in our community.
The one-hour class with be taught by owner Rick Vitali, who is a fifth-degree black belt and has over 20 years experience in self-defense. The focus will be on techniques to help fight off, get away from or disable an attacker. The class will be interactive, so comfortable clothes are recommended.
The Council of Domestic Violence offers services to sometimes 50 women and 35 children a month in Fayette County. They depend almost entirely on volunteers and donations to stay in operation. This event is one of several planned to bring the problem of domestic violence to the forefront and gather support from the community.
Vitali Family Karate is located at 240 Glenn Street in Fayetteville next to Johnny's Pizza. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at the door the morning of the event or in advance by calling Rick Vitali at 770-719-2100.
