Bad Links? | Patriots stay hot, Chiefs add win to their recordBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The high school teams from Fayette County played really well last week, when their games were finally played. Of the five public high schools in the county, only Fayette County lost. Both Landmark and Our Lady of Mercy lost non-region games over the weekend. In region 4-AAAAA, Fayette County lost to Newnan 14-0. The Tigers (0-5) have been shutout the past two weeks by the same score but they have been playing better defensively. This week, the Tigers will host Union Grove (3-2), which lost to Starrs Mill last week, 28-14. Starrs Mill took a 7-0 lead into the locker room at halftime last Friday and then scored 21 more points in the second half for a 28-14 win over Union Grove. The Panthers (5-0) rushed for 436 yards and held Union Groves ground game to 36 yards. Kyle McCreary rushed for 168 yards and Antonio Scott added 131 more for Starrs Mill. Each had a touchdown, as did quarterback Robby Davis and Sean OBrien. Starrs Mill will host Lovejoy (2-2) on Friday. The Wildcats have won two games in a row, beating Riverdale, 23-20 and Morrow, 37-12. In region 4-AAAA, Sandy Creek fell behind 9-0 to Chapel Hill but had a much better second half on their way to a 49-12 win to improve to 4-0 on the year. Ishmael Gordon and Jamal Rome scored in the first half, while Reggie Ellington, Corbin Miles, Angelo Garibaldi and David Brooks added scores in the second half. Brian Brown, Michael Anderson and Rickey Nicholson all had solid games on defense. The Patriots will have their hands full this week when they host Douglas County (3-2) for their homecoming game. Douglas County lost a game they won to McIntosh due to a forfeit and lost the other game to Creekside, 26-17. McIntosh (2-2) got a huge win over Alexander last week, 34-13. The Chiefs got 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Charles Castleberry, while Zach Brown and quarterback Brendan Hall also added touchdowns. McIntosh will travel to take on Lithia Springs (2-3) this Friday. The Lions two wins came over Chapel Hill, 31-19 and Haralson County, 20-19. They were shutout by Northgate last week, 24-0. Whitewater came back from a week off to defeat North Oconee 35-8. The Wildcats built a 13-0 lead at the half and then added 22 unanswered points in the second half. Scoring for Whitewater were quarterback Jay Bright, Tavarez Dixon, Blake Underwood, Kurdice Neal and Jonathan Ashley. Dustin Davis, Ryan Johnson, Jonathan Jaurigue and Nick Price all chipped in good performances for the defense. Whitewater is on the road once again this week with a Friday night game at Dutchtown (1-3). Dutchtown has a win over North Oconee and losses to Henry County, Stockbridge, and Eagles Landing Christian. In region 5-A, Landmark Christian lost to Bremen, 35-0. The War Eagles open their region schedule this week with a game at Mt. Zion, Carrollton (0-5). The Eagles lost to Athens Christian last week 41-14 and have only scored 52 points this year. Our Lady of Mercy lost to Aquinas, 43-8. Jason Bryant had a touchdown for the Bobcats, quarterback Brett Bartles had 100 yards passing and Mike Donald had four catches for 100 yards in the loss. Bernard Michel led the way on defense with 15 tackles, while freshman Patrick Silloway played well on the defensive line. Our Lady of Mercy will host Bowdon (3-2). Bowdons two losses came against Carrollton and Clay County, Ala. and one of their wins was a 34-7 win over Landmark.
