Bad Links? | Lyons to lead revival services at Outreach InternationalThe pastor of a Louisville, Ky. church that has placed itself as a reconciling force between the citys police and the citys predominately black inner core will lead revival services at Outreach International Center, 1091 S. Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, Sunday, Sept. 26, through Tuesday, Sept. 28. Although Bishop Dennis Lyons and his church, Full Gospel Missionary Church, have been successful in cleaning several city blocks known for violence and drug dealing, he and the church have drawn criticism from other African-American congregations for their support of the Louisville Police Department. We can be a resource to our people when they are confronted by the police, and we can be a resource for the police when they are confronting our people, the Bishop said. He proudly declared that his church welcomes gang members, hustlers, pimps and prostitutes. I dont mind the church being known as a church full of crooks, because the crooks need faith to get them to where they can get to Christ, Lyons said. Dr. John Hatcher, pastor of Outreach, said I hope and pray that our church can see a vision of reaching people who dont look like us and whose needs are probably much more basic than our own. Lyons will preach Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., and both Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. All four services will include praise and worship led by Minister Garland Cobb and instrumentalist Fenette Beresford.
