Bad Links? | MDA to lock up leaders for special fundraiserA host of community and business leaders in the area have been targeted for a massive amount of arrests, according to officials with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The suspects arent charged with any crimes, however. The MDA plans to jail them in hopes of raising donations to provide services and equipment to local people suffering from muscular dystrophy. The jailbirds will be escorted to their cells at the Fayetteville Holiday Inn Express by volunteer deputies and DARE officers from the Fayette County Sheriffs Department and the Georgia State Patrol. They will be fingerprinted and a mug shot will be taken upon their arrival. Jailbirds will make last-minute calls using cell phones donated by T-Mobile to reach friends family and co-workers in an attempt to raise their bail. A meal by Right on Thyme Catering and Mrs. Bs Catering will also be provided to participants. Proceeds will be used to provide services for individuals with neuromuscular disease including MDA clinic visits at Emory University Center for Rehabilitative Medicine and Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite along with the local MDA summer camp at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, a week-long camp for kids ages 6-21 with neuromuscular diseases. Also funded are support group sessions and assistance with medical equipment. And of course, funds will help fund vital research to find cures for over 40 neuromuscular diseases. |
