Bad Links? | PTC Youth Council plans events, seeks new membersThe Peachtree City Youth Council recently met for the first time in the 2004-05 school year. Made up of 14 students from both McIntosh and Starrs Mill high schools, the Youth Council has already made plans for three big events in the coming weeks: Ê"Rocktober Fest 2004, a showcase of Metro Atlanta bands, will take place Oct. 29 at the Fred Brown Amphitheater from 7-11 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the Peachtree City Recreation Department beginning Oct. 15. A free Halloween party for kids ages 6-10 will take place Oct. 30 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center, 202 Kedron Drive in Peachtree City. Carnival-type games will be played, and candy will be given out. There will also be costume contests for each age group. Admission is free, but you have to pre-register beginning Oct. 15. Any high school student who lives in Fayette County is eligible to run for a position on the PTCYC. From Oct. 18 through Nov. 5, any interested candidates can submit a "Notice of Election" form at the citys Web site, www.peachtree-city.org. Six board positions, one chairperson and five co-chairs, will be elected Nov. 11. Any Fayette County high school student will be eligible to vote that night, but you must be present for the debates that night to vote. The election will take place immediately after the debate. Also, anyone interested in becoming a regular member of the PTCYC is welcomed to join. Those positions are called "cabinet members. Becoming a cabinet member of the youth council is easy. All you have to do is attend three meetings and assist with one special event or project. Once that's completed, that person will be eligible as a voting (cabinet) member of the Peachtree City Youth Council with voting rights at all official PTCYC meetings.
