Bad Links? | With no up-front notice, Hooters hangs it upBy JOHN MUNFORD After a much-publicized frontal approach into the city, Hooters, the chicken-wings restaurant, is backing out of Fayetteville after quietly closing its location at the intersection of Ga. Highways 85 and 314. The restaurants exterior sign has come down and a sign on the front door directed patrons to other Hooters locations in the area. The restaurant, a chain famous for its provocatively-clad waitresses, opened here in June 2001. Plans for the company to locate in Fayetteville drew a number of letters to the editor criticizing the concept. Just a year before, Hooters announced plans to build a restaurant in Fayetteville, drawing public opposition in a meeting at City Hall. Ultimately the plans were deep-sixed by the city due to a lack of road improvements near that location on Banks Road. The restaurant later moved into the vacant building formerly occupied by Shoneys, which lifted the need for any type of city approval because the building was already zoned for restaurant use. |
