Amphitheater stormwater project may cost moreWould still be under amount budgeted, officials say By JOHN MUNFORD
A project to improve stormwater drainage in the area of the Villages Amphitheater may see some increased costs. The tab was originally budgeted for $30,862, but Integrated Science and Engineering is petitioning for a change order to allow for more needed materials due to persistent rainfall, increased storm water velocities and sedimentation. The change order, if approved by the City Council, will add another $6,388 to the project for a final cost of $37,200. Nancy Price, head of the citys Mainstreet program, noted that the new total is still under the citys original budget of $42,049 for the project. The funding is coming from the 2004 budget with money from the citys tree bank and storm water funds. The amphitheater has become a hot spot in downtown Fayetteville, and not just as a concert venue. Other events are held there including some band concerts for nearby Fayette County High School and the popular Fayette Idol competition earlier this year. Also on tap this Sunday at 7 p.m. is a special church service aimed at bringing together a number of local churches.
