Bad Links? | Another interstate exit could be in Cowetas futureBy JOHN THOMPSON The Coweta County Commission has taken the first step toward obtaining another exit on Interstate 85. Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay said the county has sent a memorandum of understanding to the DOT asking for another exit on Poplar Road. There was some sentiment about asking for an exit between Ga. Highway 34 and Ga. Highway 154, but Gay said there were no connecting roads in the area, which would make it hard to justify to the transportation agency. For years, the County Commission debated whether an exit at Poplar Road or Lower Fayetteville Road would make more sense. I think that issues been resolved and everybodys in agreement on Poplar Road, the administrator added. But he added, the county will have to jump through many more transportation hoops before the exit is built. He estimated the project would take between 8-10 years to complete. |
