Bad Links? | Johnson hits the big time with three TDs against ClemsonBy MICHAEL BOYLAN In Georgia Techs first game of the season, freshman wide receiver Calvin Johnson had two catches for 45 yards. It was a good debut but it wasnt very flashy. This past Saturday, Johnson, the former Sandy Creek standout, got flashy. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound receiver had 8 catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns, one of which was the game-winner, which came with 11 seconds left in the game. He is the only freshman in Georgia Tech history to have three or more touchdowns in a game. Johnson was named ACC Rookie of the Week. Other formerly local players who performed for their college teams were: Matt Fuhrmann (Starrs Mill) had 10 tackles and a sack for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Kelvin German (Sandy Creek) had two rushes for four yards for Middle Tennessee State University. Kedric Golston (Sandy Creek) had one tackle and three assists for the University of Georgia. Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had a tackle for the University of South Carolina. Reuben Houston (Starrs Mill) had an interception, five solo tackles, an assist and four punt returns for 43 yards for Georgia Tech. Phillip Hyde (Sandy Creek) had nine rushes for 41 yards for Samford University. Will Judson (Sandy Creek) had four kick returns for 96 yards for Florida A&M. J.R. Lemon (Sandy Creek) had 14 rushes for 61 yards and three receptions for 28 yards for Stanford University. Riley Swanson (Sandy Creek) had three solo tackles for Wake Forest.
