Bad Links? | Memorial ride overwhelms family with love and supportThe Tim Cobb Memorial Ride was an even a bigger event than we thought it would be, said Garry Heget, co-owner of Black Jack Motorcycles. The ride's purpose was to honor the life of 5-year-old Tim Cobb, who passed away recently from an inoperable brain tumor, and to help provide for his mounting medical expenses. The Black Jack Riding Chapter put on the ride with organizational help from Mary Ann Whelan, whose son was Tim Cobb's best friend. "The response from the bike community was unbelievable," said Heget. Approximately 300 bikes rode for Tim Cobb. "We would like to extend a special thanks to the Fayette County Police and the Peachtree City Police Department for blocking traffic at lights, and for all their support for the ride," said Heget. Tims mother, Abby, said she is still in shock, every time she thinks about it. What a sight to see 300 motorcycles going down the road all in support of my son and his brave fight. Black Jack co-owner Bill Whelan, a friend of Tim's dad Pete Cobb, said, Pete is a man of few words. You could see how deeply he was moved by the outpouring of support when all the bikes just kept pulling into Black Jacks parking lot. It was like it was never-ending. David Mitchell, president of the Black Jack Riding Chapter, and Laura Markovic, vice-president, were pleased to report that over $8,000 was raised that day. "All the money went directly to the family to help with the expenses incurred from Tims courageous fight against his disease, said Markovic. "Words could not describe how we felt by just being a small part of this great day." "We would like to thank John Metcalf of Full Throttle, the folks at Arctic Circle, the generous prize donations from vendors and everybody for all their support and for coming out for the ride," Heget said. Donations for the Cobb family are still being accepted at The Bank of Georgia. Ask for the Tim Cobb Memorial Fund. |
