Bad Links? | Westmoreland gets endorsement from national taxpayers groupThe political action arm of a Washington-based grassroots taxpayers association has endorsed Lynn Westmoreland in Georgias 8th Congressional District race. A Republican from Sharpsburg, Westmoreland will face Democrat Silvia Delamar of Conyers in the Nov. 2 general election. The endorsement from the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund called Westmoreland a true taxpayers advocate. Lynn Westmorelands promises to provide meaningful tax relief and pay down the deficit by reducing wasteful federal spending are clear indications that he will be an advocate for genuine fiscal responsibility in government, said John Berthoud, president of the NTUCF. With a flood of red ink in Washington that threatens the recently-enacted tax cuts, taxpayers in Georgia and across the nation need a candidate committed to putting more money in their pockets, rather than federal coffers. Added Berthoud, Lynn Westmorelands opponent, Silvia Delamar, has a laundry list of new federal programs that will only deepen the national debt and increase the size of the federal government. NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union, the nations largest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. Endorsement decisions at NTUCF require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a five-member committee that includes two Independents, one Democrat, and two Republicans.
