Bad Links? | Fayetteville council to vote again on millage rateLikely to remain the same on staff recommendation By JOHN MUNFORD Although a software glitch at the tax assessors office is sending Fayettevilles millage rate back to the table Thursday night, it likely wont change. Staff is recommending council adopt the same millage rate council adopted earlier this year: 3.033 mills. The action still counts as a tax increase because it will bring in more property tax revenue due to the increase in property valuations and addition of new properties to the tax rolls, however. The matter will be taken up at Thursday nights City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The citys tax digest increased by 13.10 percent last year, with property reassessments counting for 9.96 percent of the total digest growth, officials said. Fayetteville is not alone in having to re-vote on its millage rate. All Fayette cities, the county commission and the board of education must take a similar action. The net tax increase will be $2.033 million, according to city estimates. In other business, council will consider amending its flood plain management and flood damage prevention ordinance. The changes include establishing a uniform process to deal with violations, enforcement and penalties, establishing permit procedures and enhanced provisions for flood hazard reduction. City Engineer Don Easterbrook said the new ordinance may eventually lead to discounts for city residents on their flood insurance through the National Floodplain Insurance Program.
