Bad Links? | Tourism Assn. to welcome director, OK $3 million budgetBy J. FRANK LYNCH The Peachtree City Tourism Association will make formal introductions with its new executive director when it meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. The PCTA board will also give formal approval to its fiscal year 2005 budget, which passed muster with the City Council at its Sept. 2 meeting. The $3.03 million budget includes $1.5 million to run the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater and $900,000 to operate the Tennis Center. Another $650,000 is designated for general administration and to help fund tourism-related events like the Shakerag Arts Festival, the citys July 4th celebration and the Great Georgia Air Show. Both the Tennis Center and amphitheater are currently operating in the black on revenues they generate, noted PCTA Chairman Steve Rapson. The proposed budget includes $200,000 in hotel-motel tax revenue but none of that money goes to run the venues, Rapson noted. The PCTA will formally welcome Executive Director Linda McCarthy tonight as well. McCarthy, of Diamondhead, Miss., started work Monday overseeing management of the Tennis Center and amphitheater. Shell also be involved in developing additional tourism-related events for the city. Most recently, McCarthy was executive director of the Houma Civic Center in Houma, La. She also worked for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games in 1996. Also tonight, the PCTA board is set to discuss a draft agreement for resurfacing a number of courts at the Tennis Center. The meeting is open to the public. |
