Fairburn weathers FrancesBy LINDSAY BIANCHI
We got through by the grace of God. Thats Fairburns City Administrator Jim Williams assessment about facing the last blows of Hurricane Frances Tuesday night. With one hour being the longest power outage, Fairburn kept things going thanks to the foresight and quick response of the citys electrical crew, the public works department and the police. All the emergency departments work together in a situation like this. Williams said. They were on the job at 9 p.m. A large tree on Bohannon Road had to be cut up to clear the street and several power lines were snapped by more falling trees. Williams said the damage in town by water and debris was significant, but far less than other areas. He mentioned that one city employee who lives in Brooks still doesnt have power. An inventory of materials and putting crews on call are the two main precautions that are taken to help weather the storm. I look to see how fast our people can get out there. Williams said. He related that when he arrived at City Hall Wednesday morning at 5 a.m. that everyone was out doing their best to keep Francis from making too large of a mess. We must be doing something right. Williams added making it clear that he was proud of the job city employees were doing.
