Fire destroys Sharpsburg homeBy JOHN THOMPSON
Its a sight no one wants to see, especially after being out of town on vacation. On Monday night, the home of Roger Duncan at 1451 Bob Smith Road went up in flames. Coweta County Fire Chief Dennis Hammond said his department received a call from a neighbor at 2:30 a.m. that the home was ablaze. We got there shortly after the call. We had to go a little slower because a driving rain storm was coming down, he said. The department tried to save the home, but it was too far gone and will probably be totalled, said Hammond. Neighbors said the Duncans were out of town for the Labor Day holiday and returned home Tuesday to find their home destroyed. With the storm blowing, next door neighbor Liz Linnell said that she never heard fire trucks, smelt smoke or saw flames. Hammond said the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Coweta County Fire Marshal.
