How locals fared in college football gamesSome of our former local high school players turned in good performances for their collegiate teams over the weekend. John Deraney (Fayette County) was 2-for-3 in field goals and averaged 50.3 yards per punt (longest 62 yards) for NC State. Jason Earwood had one tackle and two assists for Georgia Southern University. Matt Fuhrmann (Starrs Mill) had 10 tackles and two fumble recoveries for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Kedric Golston had one tackle for UGA. Reuben Houston (Starrs Mill) had six solo tackle and three assists for Georgia Tech. Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had an interception and four assists for the University of South Carolina. Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had two catches for 45 yards for Georgia Tech.
