How locals fared in college football games

Some of our former local high school players turned in good performances for their collegiate teams over the weekend.

• John Deraney (Fayette County) was 2-for-3 in field goals and averaged 50.3 yards per punt (longest 62 yards) for NC State.

• Jason Earwood had one tackle and two assists for Georgia Southern University.

• Matt Fuhrmann (Starr’s Mill) had 10 tackles and two fumble recoveries for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

• Kedric Golston had one tackle for UGA.

• Reuben Houston (Starr’s Mill) had six solo tackle and three assists for Georgia Tech.

• Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had an interception and four assists for the University of South Carolina.

• Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had two catches for 45 yards for Georgia Tech.
