Get off your protestations and vote!By CRISSI HOLZMANN As former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said in his speech at the Republican National Convention, In choosing a President, we really dont choose a Republican or Democrat, a conservative or a liberal. We choose a leader. During these perilous times, Americans should base their vote on leadership, and not let their decision be tainted by pride and partisanship. This coming election, truly, is a contest for the future of our country and the results will make a deep impact on Americas backbone and within history books for many years to come. It is more important now than ever before that we need to show our support. I am not writing this column to cover all the issues that we already know so much about, and have been debating, over and over, for the last several months. I am not here to attack the liberals either; quite frankly, Ive got better things to do with my time than waste it on ongoing voracious attacks directed towards the opposing party. I would rather be trying to build up our country and making my contribution towards a unified nation than tearing it apart by throwing stones at our commander-in-chief, and at each other. (Oh, and by the way, to all you liberals out there, something to think about: Would you be here, able to attack our president as you are doing, or even able to vote, if your mothers had been as aggressively pro-abortion as you are now, and killed you before you even had a chance to speak up for yourself?) I am writing this column to appeal to all of you Republicans out there to get off your derrieres and vote during these elections! I know so many of you. I know that you are passionate, driven people and you want the best for America. But I also know that you are passionate about everything except one thing: Getting off to the nearest voting precinct. Somehow this is difficult for you because you underestimate the importance, and power, of your vote. Remember, actions speak louder than words! Like a puzzle that is built from hundreds of pieces, our nation comprises millions of individuals, and, like the puzzle, each piece counts! Each individual counts! Each vote counts! It is our prerogative to vote! Yours and mine. It is our duty to our country! As you make sure, no matter what, come hell or high water, to deposit your paycheck each month so you can meet your debts, you need to make sure to submit your vote. This is your debt to America. You owe this to our nation, to the person sitting beside you, or standing in front of you at the grocery store. You owe it to your family, to your grandchild sitting at your feet, to your daughter going off to school, to your son or husband in uniform who is defending our country. Do not turn your backs on them just because you are too lazy, or have a headache that day, or the sun is not shining outside and the weather looks a bit groggy. Take just a few minutes of your time to stand up for what you so strongly believe in, and get off to the voting poll to cast your vote. By doing so, you will have added yet another deposit in our hope for the future, your contribution towards a stronger nation. One tiny step for you, one giant step for America! When I look deep into my heart, partisanship aside, and I ask myself who I can sincerely trust with my life, my family, my country, the answer is very clear: President Bush. He has a backbone of steel and a heart of gold. As I so strongly believe in our country, I also believe in our president. President Bush is not up there for political gain, he is there for the people of America and he has love and respect for each individual, within this nation and across the world, and he shows it. I am a God-fearing woman and I am going to vote for a God-fearing man. As America recognized our Almighty God on its currency with the words, In God we trust, so does our President continue to recognize Him, and he is strong enough to show us, even in these modern times when so many throw stones at his deeply rooted faith. George W. Bush is a man of character, perseverance and inner strength, a true leader who stands up for what he believes in, a man who keeps to his word and does not budge, even when the going gets tough. Again, remember, actions speak louder than words! As California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said at the convention, We are one America, and President Bush is defending it with all his heart and soul! ... Leadership isnt about polls. Its about making decisions and then standing behind those decisions. Thats why America is safer with George W. Bush as president. George Bush has worked hard to protect and preserve the American dream for all of us. Thats why I say ... send him back to Washington for four more years! From the bottom of my heart, may God bless each and every one of you, may God bless President Bush and may God bless America.
