Carrier to speak at Christs Church Sept. 12 anniversary serviceChrists Church at Whitewater will welcome back its founding pastor, Paul Carrier, for its 21st anniversary Sunday services on Sept. 12. Carrier will preach both services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Carrier led the congregation for 18 years until his retirement from full-time ministry in August, 2001. When Carrier began his ministry at Christs Church which was then Kenwood Christian Church, the congregation of only 60 members was meeting in Tri-City Realtys sign shop. He helped oversee the churchs growth from its former worship facilities on Highway 279 to its current worship center in south Fayetteville. Carrier says he is excited about preaching at Christs Church on Anniversary Sunday. I helped birth the church and raised her until she was 18 years old ready to be on her own, Carried said. It has been a joy to watch her finding her sense of identity and sensing her future under younger leadership. It will be like a family reunion for me to go back and express mutual love and speak a word from God into their present situation. Kenny White became the senior minister of Christs Church in March, 2002. White says he is thrilled to have Carrier as guest preacher on Anniversary Sunday. I admire and respect Paul Carrier, especially for what he accomplished in his ministry of 18 years, White said. He and his wife, Donna, have been very supportive of my wife, Cindy, and me as we have begun our ministry. Carrier adds that since his retirement from full-time ministry, he has committed himself to helping small and struggling churches find stability and new direction. Carrier says, You cannot really retire from ministry - only downsize a bit. He ministered at First Christian Church of Bremen, a 60-member church, until April of this year. During that time, he says, the church stabilized, reorganized for more effective ministry, and rethought their philosophy of ministry. Carrier and his wife, Donna, currently minister at Brooks Christian Church.
