ObituariesTony Davis Tony Davis, 42, Fayetteville, formerly of Jonesboro, died Aug. 26, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Jimmy Davis. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro Worship Center. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Beth Davis, Fayetteville; children, Danielle, Dustin, and Dylan; his mother, Virginia Davis; brothers, Rocky Davis, and Don Davis; and a sister, Debbie Babb. Flora Johnson Willis Flora Johnson Willis, 96, Fayetteville, died Aug. 27, 2004. She was born Feb. 8, 1908 in Grady County, Ga. She was preceded in death by husbands, Bubber Collins and Jim Willis. Graveside services were at the Cairo City Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Joe Allen officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Julie and Charles Kendrick, Fayetteville; a brother, Jack Johnson, Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Lacy Brackett, Panama City, Fla.; grandsons, Morgan and Celia Kendrick, and Craig and Kathryn Kendrick; and great-grandchildren, Ivy and Erin Kendrick. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Dorothy Louise Brogdon Dorothy Louise Brogdon 80, Union City, formerly of Fayetteville, died Aug. 28, 2004. She was born Aug. 7, 1924 in Fulton County. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell & Son chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Survivors include nephews and nieces. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Henry Crews Henry Bear Crews, 67, Fayetteville, died Aug. 30, 2004. He was born May 23, 1937 in Fayette County , the son of the late Henry Franklin and Rachel Myrtice Greer Crews Sr. A graduate of Fayette County High School, he had set a record in both football and baseball, where his highest batting average stood for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing at Apalachicola, Fla., and spent many happy hours there fishing, cooking ribs, and entertaining friends with his fish stories. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Stringham, Pastor Bob Omer, and Alan Stanley officiating. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Recie Crews, Fayetteville; children, Kevin and Angie Crews, Sonya and Matt Tedford, Kyna and Lance Stanley, and Stephanie and Keith Thompson; grandchildren, Thomas and Daniel Crews, Matthew and Lynsey Tedford, Caleb, Joshua and Nathan Henry Stanley, and Kassidy Thompson; sister, Carol and Harry Sweatman; and a nephews, Curt and Heather Whitlock. Barbara Ann Brown Barbara Ann Brown, 76, Fayetteville, died Sept. 1, 2004. She was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Fulton County. Services were at Harps Crossing Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Watson, and the Rev. Tommy Roan officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include her husband, William Ralph Brown, Fayetteville; children, Jo Ann and Davis Mays, and Sheila and Dennis Watson, all of Fayetteville; and Bill and Ann Brown, Decatur; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Tommy Roan and the Rev. Charlie Pike officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Martha Hall Lanier, Fayetteville; a son, James David and Sheila Lee Lanier, Fayetteville; a daughter, Martha Suzanne and Terry Cooper, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Chelsea Lee Lanier, and James Alexander Lanier, both of Fayetteville; and a brother, Jerald M Lanier, California. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Domonick Ciccanesi Domonick Ciccanesi, 83, Fayetteville, died Sept. 3, 2004. He was born April 28, 1921 in Buffalo, N. Y., and was reared in Boston, Mass. He served in the United States Army in World War II under General George Patton in Africa and Europe, and again in the Korean Conflict. After retirement he was a manager with the Holiday Inn Corporation, working in the Atlanta Market and the European Market. He enjoyed friends, golf, and opera. Services were at the Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Isabel, whom he met and married in Germany. Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge. Alton Eugene Gittems Alton Eugene Gittens, 80, Fayetteville, died Sept. 3, 2004. He was born Aug. 19, 1924 in Barrow County. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Eugene Gittens. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ted Murphree officiating. Interment was at Collin Spring Cemetery, Smyrna. Survivors include his wife, June Wilkie Gittens, Fayetteville; a sons, Ricky Alonso and Cindy Gittens, Moultrie, and Mark Anthony and Susan Gittens, Gainesville; a daughter, Wanda Denise Phillips, Gainesville; a stepdaughter, Jamie and Jim McDonald, Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Edna I. Leonas Edna I. Leonas, 85, Sharpsburg, died June 4, 2004. She was born Oct. 4, 1918 in Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Leonas. They had been active in the Elks Lodge. Memorial services will be Sept. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Heatherwood Baptist Church, Newnan. Survivors include a brother, Fred Dean, Martin; a sister, Martha Olsen, Fort Valley; five nephews; and six nieces. |
