Volunteers looking for Christmas storageBy CAROLYN CARY
A group of concerned volunteers is looking for storage for Christmas items. Due to the fact that the Department of Family and Childrens Services will not be holding its usual gift request for the countys needy children and some senior citizens in nursing homes, a group, including volunteers from the Fayette Samaritans, will be trying to perform that task. Commented Charlie Charping, We have been looking for at least 10,000 square foot storage which we will need from Nov. 15 through Jan. 10. We have enough volunteers to handle the task, and are assured enough funds for the childrens wishes will be forthcoming. Last year there were 521 families served in Fayette County, with 87 of these seniors in nursing homes. Because the DFACS offices are closed on Saturday, they are permitting its offices to be used by the Samaritans on the last three days of November. Families wishing to apply for Christmas assistance, must come during these days and be interviewed. They will then need to come in late December at whatever storage facility is obtained to pick up the items. If you have the required storage facility available, call Charlie Charping at 770-461-6009.
