Out of county residents will pay to enjoy Lake HortonBy JOHN THOMPSON
If youre from Coweta or another adjoining county, youre going to have to pony up some cash to enjoy the amenities of Lake Horton. With little discussion, the Fayette County Commission passed a $10 daily parking fee that will apply to all out-of-county residents who visit the park. Previously, the commission had considered imposing a $10 fee for fishing, but county officials said that would be difficult to enforce. Now, a county marshal will patrol the lake at different times and check a vault for the permit fees. The marshal will check the number of permits in the vault and see how many out-of-county cars are at the lake. If a car is parked and does not have a permit, the marshal will either cite the resident or explain the parking fee ordinance. The county has recently upgraded the park and it offers one if the most serene settings in the county, along with walking paths and a lake that fishermen love. County officials said they are trying to ensure that the taxpayers of Fayette County who built the lake will be able to enjoy it for a long time.
