Local couple buys back funeral home

Higgins Funeral Home is once again family-owned and operated.

Jason and Lisa Shepard, a married couple from Statesboro have purchased the funeral home that’s located directly in front of the Holly Hill Cemetery on Roosevelt Highway.

The previous owner, Glen Higgins, sold the funeral home to Stewart Enterprises in 1992. Stewart Enterprises is one of the largest funeral service providers in the world, operating more than a thousand funeral homes.

Jason Shepard and his wife Lisa, were able to buy the business back from the corporation, thereby preserving the tradition of the well-known and long-serving funeral home.

Shepard says “We are planning a lot of improvements, both to how the

facility looks and to the service that families will receive. We have

already re-paved the parking lot and re-landscaped. We’re going to

completely renovate both the inside and outside of our building. It’s

going to be beautiful when it’s completed in about six weeks.”

“We’re also excited about working closely with Holly Hills Memorial Park. We expect that many of the families that plan burials at the cemetery will want to use our funeral home. We’re proud to be able to offer the convenience and safety of being right next door to Holly Hills.” says Jason Shepard.

Jason Shepard, a licensed Georgia Funeral Director who has plans to eventually change the name to Shepard Funeral Home at Holly Hills, plans to bring back the heritage that the community deserves from it’s funeral home.

Shepard added “Both Lisa and I strongly believe that when a family entrusts us with serving them during a time of death, we are obligated to serve them with the highest dignity and respect possible.”

The funeral home will serve all surrounding communities but will focus on serving the families of Fairburn, Union City, Palmetto, Tyrone and Peachtree City.

Lisa Shepard added “We want everyone to know that we are proud to be here in Fairburn and we’re going to do whatever it takes to ensure that the families that choose us will get the best service that we are able to provide. And we’d enjoy having anyone and everyone drop in just to say ‘Hi’ and let us show them what we’re doing”.
