Library move begins Sept. 3The Peachtree City Library will be closed from today until Wednesday, Sept. 15, when they re-open at their temporary location, the former Golds Gym at Commerce Drive and Georgia Highway 74. The library will remain there for at least the next twelve months while the existing building is under construction. Voters in Peachtree City approved a $4.9 million bond referendum last November to renovate and expand the library. During the transition to the temporary facility, patrons will be able to return books at either location, said Library Technology and Training Manager Jill Prouty. However, after the library re-opens on Sept. 15, books will need to be returned to the Commerce Drive location only. Prouty also said that the Library would be offering a fine free month during September, while patrons (and staff) get acclimated to the new location. The moving contract was awarded to American Interfile and Library Services, Inc. out of Bay Shore, N.Y. American Interfile specializes in moving libraries. Former clients include Hingham Public Library, Port Washington Public Library, and Forth Worth Public Library. Groundbreaking for the librarys expansion and renovation will be scheduled for Sept. 16.
