Poets & Writers is pleased to announce that applications
are now being accepted for the 2005 Writers Exchange. The contest
is open to Georgia resident poets and Þction writers who have
never published a book or have published only one full-length
book of fiction or poetry.
To receive guidelines and applications by mail, send a self-addressed
stamped envelope to Writers Exchange, Poets & Writers, Inc.,
72 Spring Street, NY, NY 10012.
Completed applications must be postmarked no later than December
1, 2004.
The 2005 contest is open to Georgia poets and Þction writers
who have never published a book, or have published no more than
one full-length book in the genre in which they are applying.
Self-published books do not count.
Writers may apply in either or both genres, but may submit only
one manuscript per category.
Writers may not be previous winners of contests sponsored by
Poets & Writers, Inc.
Finalists will be asked to submit veriÞcation of publications
and residency. To be considered residents, writers must have
lived in Georgia for two years prior to the date they submit
their applications.
Employees of Poets & Writers, Inc. are not eligible.
Contest winner will be announced on April 15, 2005. One Georgia
poet and one Georgia Þction writer will be chosen. Each winner
will receive a trip to New York City in October 2005. All related
travel/lodging expenses and a per diem stipend are covered by
Poets & Writers. an opportunity to give a reading and to
meet with members of the New York literary community a $500 honorarium
Poetry manuscripts should not exceed ten pages, single- or double-spaced
(minimum of seven pages).
Fiction manuscripts should not exceed 25 pages and must be double-spaced.
Fiction manuscripts may include stories/and or excerpts from
novels. Manuscripts must be typed on 16- or 20-pound, 8 1/2 x
11 white paper. Good photocopies are acceptable; onion skin or
carbon copies are not acceptable.
Published work may be included; however, no reprints from books
or magazines are acceptable. Published work must be retyped to
conform with the rest of manuscript and should not be indentiÞed
as published work.
All work must be original and written in English; translations
are not eligible. There are no restrictions on style or subject
matter.
Submit Þve collated copies of your manuscript. Your name or
address should not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
Enclose a signed contest application form with your manuscript.
All manuscripts must be postmarked no later than December 1,
2004.
If you want Poets & Writers to acknowledge receipt of your
manuscript, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard.
For a list of contest winners and judges, enclose a stamped,
self-addressed #10 envelope.
Manuscripts will not be returned, and Poets & Writers cannot
assume responsibility for loss of manuscripts.
