Cross country season begins, Berry Invitational this weekendThe cross country season began last week with Fayette County, McIntosh, Sandy Creek and Whitewater competing at McCurry Park on Thursday, Landmark and Our Lady of Mercy at the Alexander Early Bird Invitational on Saturday and Starrs Mill at the Walton Stage Races, which also took place on Saturday. In the meet at McCurry Park, McIntoshs girls and Fayette Countys boys took first place, while Fayette Countys girls and McIntoshs boys placed second. Sandy Creeks boys and girls and Whitewaters boys and girls placed third and fourth respectively. At the Alexander Early Bird Invitational, Landmarks boys placed sixth while their girls placed eighth. Our Lady of Mercys boys placed seventh while the Lady Bobcats placed 11th. In the Walton Stage Races, Starrs Mills boys placed seventh and the girls team placed 11th. The Berry Invitational will feature most if not all of these teams. It will take palce Saturday morning at Berry College in Rome, Ga. See next Wednesdays paper for results.
