CCSU lectures mark National Hispanic Heritage MonthClayton College & State University is observing National Hispanic Heritage Month in September by presenting three lectures addressing issues pertinent to the Hispanic community. All lectures will be held in room 14 of the Universitys Lecture Hall and will run from noon until 1 p.m. These lectures are free and open to the public. The first is Tuesday, Sept. 14. Brandon Wilson, an outreach associate with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., will discuss the Hispanic perspective in education in a lecture titled The Impact of Hate on College Campuses. The second lecture will be Thursday, Sept. 16. The Forest Park Latin American Associations Orlando Villanueva will address the issue of stereotypes in a lecture titled The Latin American Objection to the Illegal Alien Label. And finally, the third lecture will be held Thursday, Sept. 30. Jim Cherry, a political activist, will discuss politics in relation to the Hispanic community in a lecture titled Politics, Activism, and the Difference It Will Make. Also on the docket for fall semester: lectures will be held in October in observation of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and guest dancers will visit the University in November in observation of Native American Heritage Month. These lectures are presented through the Clayton State Lyceum annual fall Tradition series, a series dedicated to raising student and community awareness on issues of ethnic and cultural diversity.
