New grocery almost ready to open on southsideThe new Publix grocery store in south Fayetteville should be able to open some time in the coming week, city officials said. The building will likely get its certificate of occupancy Wednesday or Thursday after a final inspection, said Fayetteville Building Official Tony Haponski. The superintendent on the project hasnt yet determined when the stores grand opening will be, Haponski added. The store will join an Ingles grocery thats across Ga. Highway 92 and Kroger that is across Ga. Highway 85. Fayetteville is served by another Publix in the Fayette Pavilion and Peachtree City has two: one on Ga. Highway 54 East and one on Ga. Highway 74 South. The new Publix is part of the Summit Point shopping center, which already features several fast-food eateries including McDonalds, Wendys and the GTOs Drive-In. A Zaxbys restaurant is also planned for the shopping center.
