So far, so good for Lady Chiefs volleyballThe McIntosh Lady Chiefs volleyball team is playing in a new classification this fall, but are doing well. They have a 5-3 record, are ranked fifth in AAAA behind Sandy Creek, and should be a team ready to make some noise when the region and state tournaments come around. Among the teams that McIntosh has defeated are Marietta, McEachern, Northview and Sprayberry, while their three losses have come against some of the top ranked teams in the state, including Woodward, which is ranked first in AAAA and Starrs Mill, which is ranked second in AAAAA. The Lady Chiefs took on Landmark, another highly ranked team from A/AA and St. Pius yesterday after the paper went to press. The team is coached by Wendy Weaver, who seems pleased with the teams performance, and feels the team has the leadership and experience needed to make it to the state tournament. We lost some talented seniors last year but we have 6 returning Varsity players and some exciting young talent coming up to help fill out our roster for this season, said Weaver. The seniors on the team are captains Amanda Crawford (outside/middle hitter) and Abbey Muetzel (right side hitter), while Courtney Hummel (defensive specialist), Rachel Adams (defensive specialist/setter) and Brianna Argumosa (defensive specialist) also bring their experience to the team. Juniors are Danielle Crawford (outsdie hitter), Carly Nessing (middle hitter), Andrea Lowery (middle hitter), Kelsey Argumosa (defensive specialist/setter), Megan Cheatham (setter), Jessica Weaver (middle hitter) and Leah Thomson (outside hitter). Samatha Krehel, a middle hitter, is the only sophomore on the team. After yesterdays game at Landmark, the Lady Chiefs will be off until Sept. 9, when they play in the East/West tournament, They will host Creekside Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. |
