Bennett resinstated, then resigns

The bizarre circumstances surrounding the firing of Grantville City Manager Doug Bennett came to an end last week.

Grantville’s City Council decided to reinstate Bennett to his position last Thursday, but then Bennett turned around and resigned.

Now that his name is cleared, Bennett hopes to move on with the next stage of his life, which will involve finding work closer to his residence in Tyrone.

During the last few weeks, the western Coweta town of Grantville has been buzzing about Bennett’s dismissal. Bennett said his perfect work record was blemished when he was abruptly fired as city manager for Grantville.

The City Council met July 28 in a special called meeting and dismissed Bennett from his job.

Bennett served as city manager for four years, but prior to that he served a long tenure in the Fayette and Coweta school systems.
