SCHS teacher participates in Zoo Atlanta workshopMae-lee Terrell, a biology teacher at Sandy Creek High, learned how to effectively teach behavioral neuroscience through an innovative professional development workshop titled "Why They Do What They Do at the Zoo: Animal Behavior and the Brain," July 26-30 at Zoo Atlanta. The workshop, sponsored by Atlanta's Center for Behavioral Neuroscience and led by Georgia State University assistant professor of biology Laura Carruth, Ph.D., focused on identifying and understanding various animal behaviors at the zoo and learning the hormonal and neural mechanisms that control them. The program, which included behind-the-scenes tours at the zoo, culminated with "Teach Backs," neuroscience lessons the teachers developed based on the content presented in the workshop.
