Dunn disagrees with Browns district voting planBy JOHN THOMPSON
Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn was surprised last week when Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown issued a clarion call for district voting in the county commission races. I dont know what hes thinking, but I dont think you can assume you cant represent people unless you look like them, Dunn said. Brown said last week that going to district-wide voting would allow all residents of the county to be more fairly represented. The mayor contends that some areas of the county are being ignored by the commission. But Dunn thinks Brown needs to take a look at his own backyard before telling the county how to conduct its voting. All of the Peachtree City Council members are elected at large. Why isnt he concerned about that? Dunn said. Brown also favors having the county commission chairman elected separately. But Dunn says he believes that the current election system is the best for all county residents. The current system allows each commissioner to be concerned about every member of the county instead of just the people in the [the commissioners own] district, he said. In a separate issue, Dunn said he is just feeling fine these days. Dunn went to the hospital recently and had an angioplasty done. He returned home after the procedure and has picked up his busy schedule. Ive got two golf tournaments scheduled and I dont plan to miss those, he said.
