Going downtown this weekend?
I-75, I-85 work to slow traffic
A long stretch of Interstates 75 and 85 southbound will be blocked off three lanes at a time for a repair project beginning Sunday, according to state transportation officials.
The closures will be in force between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. between I-20 and Aviation Boulevard, officials said.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling in the work zones, officials said.
The maintenance project involves sealing joint cracks in the asphalt surface with a rubberized material that slows deterioration and protects the pavement, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
“This type of preventative maintenance work is scheduled on a regular basis,” said Yancy Bachmann, a district maintenance engineer. “... If we continue to maintain our roadways properly they not only remain safe but we save taxpayer dollars too.”
