Thaxton is named new contemporary worship director at North Fayette UMCFayette County resident Carson Thaxton, former music, arts and drama director at Camp Calvin Center, has been selected as the new Director of Contemporary Worship at North Fayette United Methodist Church. Thaxton presently works in video production, as does his wife, Kathryn. Thaxton also teaches piano, guitar, bass and drums. Thaxton received a bachelor of arts degree in music composition from Clayton State, and has been active in both acting and directing. He has written and directed a number of musical and dramatic productions and has conducted drama classes and song writing workshops. For the past three years, he has led high school, middle school, and elementary school-age youth in summer camps. In 2003, he completed a solo album of original music. Thaxton grew up in Prague, the Czech Republic, in the home of missionary parents. He learned about non-traditional ways of worship in the English-speaking church where his family worshiped. It was there that he was first part of a worship team and he has since led worship teams in two other congregations. North Fayettes contemporary worship, created almost three years ago as The Grove, was planned to appeal to students and families who enjoy an informal, dress-as-you-like environment. The Grove meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Activities Center of the church, 847 New Hope Rd., Fayetteville.
