Burglars looting lawn equipment from sheds at Fayette churchesLocal sheriffs officials are warning about a rash of burglaries involving lawn equipment taken from outdoor storage sheds at several area churches. So far, $16,000 in equipment including lawn mowers (both push and riding models), weed eaters, hedge clippers and similar devices have been stolen from churches outdoor storage sheds, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriffs Department. The brand names of the equipment has ranged from Murray to John Deere and Troy Bilt, McCastle said. The department is not releasing the names of the churches that have been hit, but McCastle said the church burglaries have occurred all over the county. Churches are being asked to inventory items kept in outdoor storage areas and write down the serial number, model and value of items, particularly lawn equipment. That information can be used to retrieve stolen items in some cases, police said. Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to contact Det. Aaron Fenimore at 770-716-4761.
