Melee at Waffle House in east PTC injures employee3 arrested by police after county deputies stopped suspects car By JOHN MUNFORD
A restaurant employee was injured Sunday night when several others ganged up on him in an assault at the Waffle House on Ga. Highway 54 in Peachtree City, police said. The victim was hit with a bottle, a broom and a frying pan after an argument broke out over some insulting remarks that had been made, police said. When officers responded to the restaurant, the suspects had already left but their vehicle was later stopped by deputies from the Fayette County Sheriffs Department, police said. Officers recovered a gun in nearby bushes that one of the suspects had during the melee; while the suspect put his hand on the gun, he did not point it at anyone, police said. Part of the guns serial number had been removed in order to keep it from being traced, police said. According to arrest warrants, the victim was struck in the head with a frying pan by Andre Muqess Berry, 17, of 8203 Greenmar Way, Riverdale. Berry was charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm by a person under 18, reckless conduct and obstruction of a police officer. Police also arrested Roy Lee White Jr., 19, of 9205 Greenmar Way, Riverdale, for giving the gun to Berry. White was charged with furnishing a pistol to a minor, criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark and obstruction of a police officer. A third person, Otis Bernard Witherspoon, 23, of 5758 Ga. Highway 85, Apt. 14G, Riverdale, was arrested for simple battery for punching the victim in the chest, police said. It was a fracas, said Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray, adding that several of the people who took part in the fight were Waffle House employees.
