PTC is Glenn countryBy J. FRANK LYNCH Lynn Westmoreland credited his support in Fayette County for giving him a sound victory in last weeks Republican primary runoff for the 8th Congressional seat. But precinct-by-precinct results of the Aug. 10 runoff with challenger Dylan Glenn show that while Westmoreland won the county overall with 61 percent of the vote, Peachtree City was solid Glenn country. Glenn won seven of Fayette Countys 34 precincts, all of them in Peachtree City, where his mother resides. Glenn, a Columbus native, posted his highest margin of victory in the Rising Starr precinct in south Peachtree City, where he drew 57.84 percent of the vote to Westmorelands 42.16 percent, results show. Glenn also drew more than 50 percent of the vote in Camp Creek (Braelinn Baptist Church); Fielding Ridge (Kedron Field House); Braelinn; Flat Creek (The Gathering Place); Aberdeen (Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church); and Shakerag West (Peachtree City Library). Just five votes kept Glenn from winning a majority over Westmoreland at two other Peachtree City polling places: Oak Grove and Kedron (Peachtree City Christian Church). In every other Peachtree City precinct, results showed it was a close race between Westmoreland and Glenn. Westmoreland, a Sharpsburg resident, won by 51.35 percent at Windgate (Peachtree City United Methodist Church); 53.52 percent at Willowbend (First Baptist Church); 52.46 percent at McIntosh (Holy Trinity Catholic Church); and 51.29 percent at Shakerag East (Glenloch Recreation Center). The rest of Fayette solidly went for Westmoreland. Glenns biggest show of support outside of Peachtree City came in the heart of Fayetteville, where he drew 44.84 percent of the vote in the Spring Hill precinct (Fayette County Library).
