Postive air removed from PTCs proposed smoking banAnother significant change has been made to Peachtree Citys proposed indoor smoking ban ordinance for public areas. The requirement for commercial establishments to maintain positive air pressure, or to keep smoke from filtering inside from smokers who are outside the business, has been removed. The positive air pressure requirement would have created an environment where air blows out of the building when the doors open. But it was later discovered that those requirements are in direct conflict with the citys energy building code. It was also noted that many older establishments in the city have smaller air conditioning units and window air conditioning units that would be difficult to modify. At last weeks City Council meeting, eliminating the proposed exemption for bars was also discussed, as council members Steve Rapson and Judi-ann Rutherford said the matter is an issue about protecting public health. Rutherford suggested the city allow bars and restaurants to create separately enclosed areas with separate ventilation systems to serve as smoking rooms if they wish.
