South Wind comes to South FultonFalling Water, Inc., one of Atlantas most prolific residential developers, announces the groundbreaking at South Wind, a new mixed-use, world class traditional town in South Fulton county. Ceremonies were held July 22 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Fairburn and were attended by Lt Governor Mark Taylor, Fulton County Commission Chairwoman Karen Handel and Commissioner William Bill Edwards. Located at the intersection of Ga Highway 92 and South Fulton Parkway, the new community will consist of approximately 1,400 acres and will be developed in two phases. Phase one converts 664 acres off Ga. 92 near Fairburn into 672 single-family homes and 196 townhomes, plus 10 tennis courts, two swimming pools, a three-mile trail, two gyms, a sports court and a playground. The second phase is larger with 724 acres set aside for mixed-use office, retail and condominium lofts and 148 acres of retail, hotel and convention space. There will be a retail village with markets, restaurants and a movie theater. South Wind includes 268 acres of open space, 100 of which will be donated to the county as a park. According to Neil Hughes, vice president of land acquisitions at Falling Water, Inc., South Wind is a definitive representation of the vitality and growth opportunities. Until now, this portion of Fulton county has been mostly ignored by developers, retailers and government officials. Today, however, Commissioners Edwards and Handel are helping us breathe new life into this incredible area. Thanks to their vision, South Wind will be one of Atlanta's best places to live, work and play, says Hughes Participating builders at South Wind are Brayson Homes, Homeland Communities, Patrick Malloy Communities and Venture Homes. Wakefield, Beasley and Associates will design the retail space at South Wind. The Atlanta architecture firm also designed The Forum on Peachtree Parkway, Atlantic Station and Perimeter Pointe as well as many schools, churches, hospitality and multi-family residential housing.
