Fulton outdoes state average in CRCT testsRecently released results of the 2004 Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) indicate that Fulton County students have exceeded the performance of their peers statewide. In all core curriculum areas, Fulton students scored higher that the state average in the Meets and/or Exceeds categories, and in all but one area, exceeded the states average scale score. Our systemwide performance in reading and math is very exciting, said Superintendent Michael J. Vanairsdale. Our focus in these subjects at the elementary and middle school level is paying off. There are still testing areas that need improvement but these results will help schools identify students strengths and weaknesses so that instruction can be adjusted. The CRCT, introduced in 2000, measures how well students are learning the Georgia curriculum in core subject areas. First and second grades are tested in reading, English/language arts and math only, while grades 3-8 are tested in those subjects and also in social studies and science. CRCT scores are reported as Levels in a range of 300 to 400. Level 1 (299 or below) indicates students do not yet meet expectations. Students scoring at Level 2 (300 to 349) meet the state's expectation of being on grade level, and students at Level 3 (350 and above) exceed expectations, or are above grade level.
