Home cleaning businesses lose PTC business tax exemptionPersons who clean homes in Peachtree City now have to pay city business taxes, just like everyone else. The change was officially made last Thursday as the City Council adopted amendments to its occupational tax ordinance. Ostensibly, such businesses were originally exempted from paying in an effort to encourage such businesses to locate in Peachtree City due to a high need. But at a recent council meeting, councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford suggested the exemption should be withdrawn. The amendments to the ordinance also exempted a number of other businesses from the occupational tax due to state law, including facilities operated by a charitable trust, depository financial institutions, insurance companies and motor common carriers.
