Heritage of Peachtree to host its own Summer OlympicsHeritage of Peachtree Retirement and Assisted Living will host a "H.O.P.E. Summer Olympics the week of Aug. 16-20. Speaking at the opening ceremonies Aug. 16 will be Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown and eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney. Residents Helen Conrad and Col. Norman C. Buehler will entertain guests with several musical numbers, accompanied by resident Margaret Riggs on piano. Heritage residents will hold a torch processional through the building as a kickoff to the opening ceremonies which precedes a wide variety of "Events" which will challenge the skill and dexterity of the participants. Two specific things that residents are especially looking forward to are the "Dance-A-Thon," where residents will "dance til they drop" to live music, and the "Wheelchair Obstacle Course," where residents on motorized carts will compete against time and accuracy. Gold, silver and bronze medalts will be awarded at the special ceremony Aug. 20, with a celebration party following. H.O.P.E. Olympics is an extension of the H.O.P.E. Wellness Program, which helps Heritage residents to maintain strengh and flexibility, no matter what their level of ability. H.O.P.E. stands for Heritage of Peachtree Exercisers.
