Plane wins awardDave Hamilton won the Outstanding Workmanship Kit-Built award at Oshkosh, Wisc., this year for his outstanding RV-8 kit number 1, N-880RV, Sweet Melissa. Hamilton worked seven years to produce this outstanding airplane. Its custom engine with three-bladed prop even has a sound of its own, as if purring, Listen! Im special! stated Peachtree City resident Vern Darley, who shares the D-30 hangar with Hamilton. Oshkosh, as the week-long air event is called, had over 700,000 attendees this year along with thousands of airplanes. It is the premier judging event of homebuilt (experimental) airplanes in the world, so Hamiltons achievement is very significant. Its on par with winning the Daytona 500 or the Masters. Earlier this year, Sweet Melissa was selected for the Vans Aircraft Annual Calendar. l.
