Tentative schedule for library move, groundbreaking setBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
Contractors made their bids for the Peachtree City Library expansion and renovation Thursday afternoon after the paper went to press. As long as the bids are within the amount budgeted for the project, and Library Director Jill Prouty feels they will be, the Library will move to its temporary location, Golds Gym on Georgia Highway 74, the week of Sept. 7-14 with the groundbreaking ceremony at the library Sept. 15. Marie Washburn, vice chairman of the Peachtree City Library Commission, expressed her pleasure that the library would be moving to a building that had as close a floor plan as possible to the current library. Commission member Mary Ann Browning agreed, adding that she was glad that it was so close by. The Peachtree City Council recently approved a 12-month lease contract for Golds Gym with an option for an extra three months, should they need it. The library will continue to offer all of their programs at Golds Gym, though some like their computer classes may be offered on a more limited basis and others like their Baby Time movie series or Foreign Film series may be held at the Kedron Fieldhouse instead. The other change is that the computers will be on a wireless network and when the new library opens the wireless network will also be offered there. Prouty stated that she had heard feedback about the move on both sides from patrons. One question she has received mre than once is how will they be able to move the library. The answer is a moving company that only moves libraries. For those wondering where to return their books once the move has been made, the library will only have a book depository at the new location. Once a bid has been accepted and the dates become finalized, The Citizen will run another reminder about the move and will announce and cover the groundbreaking.
