Bike event coming to BrooksThe fifth annual century and fun ride through historic Brooks, presented by Bicycles Unlimited, will take place Saturday, Aug.14. Organizers stress that is will be a ride, not race of either 25, 45, 65 or 100 miles in the Brooks area. Riders choose the distance they will ride. The ride begins at 8 a.m. at the "Old" Brooks fire station.ÊRiders will be able to depart on the ride until 9 a.m. but the organizers are hoping for a mass start at 8 a.m.ÊLast year Boy Scout troopsÊworking on the Cycling Merit Badge came and participated with theirÊtroop leaders to get the 25 or 50 miles required; itÊwas a great,Êfun time toÊride. Bicycles Unlimited is hoping to make this a community affair, with local groups sponsoring the rest stops every 20 miles. Each rest stop is to have a theme and the riders will vote on the best stop and a $50 prize will be awarded to that group. Churches, scout troops, businesses, etc. are all invited to call Karen Anderson at 770-486-9252 to get more information. If you are interested in riding, register at www.bikereg.com or you can go to www.BicyclesUnl.com to print the form. Helmets are required during the ride.
