There really isnt anyone else quite like them. Tim Hauser,
Janis Siegel, Alan Paul and Cheryl Bentyne have been harmonizing
for over 30 years, updating the jazz vocal genre with wit and
style. Manhattan Transfer continue to explore the possibilities
of popular music with each release. Their sizable catalog has
hit on everything from Louie Armstrong classics to Brazilian
music to Doo Wop. Along the way they have earned their share
of Grammy awards. Their critically acclaimed 1985 album, Vocalese received
12 nominations, making it the most nominated record in Grammy
history, next to Michael Jacksons Thriller.
As part of The Frederick Brown, Jrs Amphitheaters
series of Jazz performances in Peachtree City, the boys and girls
from New York City will jump and jive at The Fred Saturday
night at 8 p.m. With plenty of music to choose from including
their 2003 release, Couldnt Be Hotter, the
fantastic four of the jazz vocal world are sure to thrill their
audience.
Birdland, Boy From New York City, Until
I Met You (Corner Pocket), Twilight Zone/Twilight
Tone, and Route 66 are some of their best known
numbers, nearly all of which have won Grammys. A Christmas album
in 1992 and a childrens album in 1994 prove that their
sound can be reshaped to fit young ears and holiday celebrations.
On their 1995 album Tonin they were joined
by a host of famous music artists including Phil Collins, Bette
Midler, Frankie Valli, Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, B. B. King,
and James Taylor. Swing released in 1997 revels in
1930s era swing music, some of which, Java Jive and A-Tisket,
A-Tasket were recorded with Asleep At The Wheel.
