Citizens invited to meet police, fire officersFayetteville residents are encouraged to participate Tuesday in National Night Out, a special crime and drug prevention event hosted by the Fayetteville Police Department. Police officers and firemen will be on hand to talk about safety issues from 6-8 p.m. at the police department at 105 Johnson Avenue. Fingerprinting and identification kits for children will be offered. Police cars, special police vehicles and fire trucks will also be on display for viewing. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness by strengthening neighborhood spirit and partnerships between the community and police. The object is to send criminals a message letting them know neighborhoods are aware. The program is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
