Paul D. West MS takes third place in national contestPaul D. West Middle School in East Point took home the third place prize in the national SECME (Science Engineering, Communication, Mathematics and Enrichment) competition in Houston, Texas. The team of Ashley Bowman, Daniel Burns, and Quyen Tran won in the water bottle rocket category. Paul D. West has placed in the regional competition for nine consecutive years, and this year students advanced to the finals for winning the mousetrap, poster design, and essay writing competitions. The students were accompanied by club sponsor Shaheedah Enahora. SECME is a K-12 alliance that links engineering universities, school systems, and corporate/government investors. Its mission is to prepare minority students to enter and complete post-secondary studies in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.
