Fairburn to hold special electionMayor Betty Hannah and the Fairburn City Council voted to hold a special election Monday night. The decision came after the resignation of Councilman Glenn Higgins had been accepted by the Mayor and Council. The election is set for September 21. Prospective candidates will be able to register to run for the vacant post for a fee of $45. The window for qualification will extend from August 16 through August 18 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. City Clerk Nancy Faulkner was chosen to be the election superintendent for the special election. Candidates wishing to run for this seat may register at the Fairburn City Hall. Former City Councilman Glenn Higgins resigned his post voluntarily after pleading guilty to charges of bank fraud last week. His case is still pending.
