PTC boot drive nets funds for burn safetyMore than $5,500 was raised by the Peachtree City Fire Department during its annual Give Burns the Boot drive. Organizers wanted to thank Peachtree City residents for their generosity in contributing to the drive, which helps the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. The foundation works to educate the public in burn awareness and prevention; supports medical facilities in the care of burn victims in Georgia, and it assists burn victims in their recovery. The foundation helps burn survivors through Camp Oo-U-La, the states only camp exclusively for burn-injured children. An average of 105 children attend the camp each year, living without the fear of rejection so they can learn people truly care about them regardless of their physical features and limitations. Each camper attends free of charge. The foundation also supports each fire department that participates in the boot drive, with 10 percent of all funds raised going back to help fire prevention and education efforts in the community. Georgia continues to rank in the top 10 states for fire-related deaths and injuries, officials said. The idea of the education programs is to decrease these risks in every community. In its first 14 years, this event has raised more than $5 million statewide for the foundation. Stephanie Furey, boot drive coordinator for the Peachtree City Fire Department, thanked all citizens for their generous support of the drive.
